The Certificate of Masonic Knowledge Program

In honor of M.W. Bro. Don Beattie

The Grand Lodge of Manitoba has sanctioned a program consisting of five 1000-word minimum essays exploring Masonic knowledge.

The topics of the essays consist of the following topics:

  • Masonic History – subject matter is not limited to the origins of the Craft, it may be of any historical events where a strong Masonic connection or influence can be demonstrated.
  • Masonic Symbolism – i.e.; the symbolism of Degrees, appendant body symbolism.
  • Masonic Philosophy
  • Masonic Mysticism/Esotericism – subject matter may include appendant bodies, fringe Masonry or any other subject matter where a strong Masonic connection or influence can be demonstrated.

The final submission is a paper of choice i.e.: the author’s personal Masonic Journey, Masonic biography, Lodge history, further exploration of a previously visited topic or any other subject matter with a strong Masonic connection.

There is no “pass/fail” type of grading system. Each submission will be reviewed by a panel of 4 Master Masons to ensure a basic rudimentary understanding of the subject matter has been demonstrated. There is no deadline for submissions.

All submissions remain the intellectual property of the author. From time to time, permission may be requested to circulate or display a particular submission for the furthering of Masonic education. In any such instance the decision of the author shall be respected without bias.

This program is an opportunity for Masons of all levels of experience to express their opinions and to further and share their knowledge of Masonic subjects in a manner convenient to their lifestyle.

The more opinions expressed by and the resulting greater common understanding of Freemasonry by sharing those opinions and ideas, the stronger we will be as jurisdictions, districts, Lodges and indeed an Order. We are seeking your opinions and perspectives on Freemasonry.

Upon completion of the program the participant will receive a MW Don Beattie Certificate of Masonic Knowledge from the Grand Lodge of Manitoba A.F.&A.M.

The program is currently open at no cost to any Master Mason in good standing on the Grand Registry of Manitoba, Grand Lodge of Manitoba A.F.&A.M.
